You can read without an account. This site does not set advertising or analytics cookies, embed social tracking widgets, or collect newsletter addresses. Search runs in your browser using a public article index.

Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes technical information such as IP addresses, request times, device and browser details to deliver and protect the site. Hosting processing may take place outside South Africa. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Contacting us

If you email us, we receive your email address and the information you choose to include. We use it to handle your query and related correspondence. We keep correspondence only as needed for that purpose and applicable record-keeping requirements. Please ask us if you need details about a particular record.

Optional contributions

Contributions are currently disabled. When enabled, checkout takes place on From My Backpack through Shopify and the store’s payment gateway. SNM does not receive your card details. The checkout privacy notice applies to the information processed there. The source publication and article may be included with the order for reporting.

Email updates

Email signup is disabled for launch. No subscriber information is collected here. We will update this notice before enabling any newsletter, including the provider, consent process, use of addresses and unsubscribe route.

Your information

You can contact us to ask about information we hold about you, request access or correction, object to processing, or request deletion, subject to applicable legal obligations. We may need proportionate information to verify a request. If a concern remains unresolved, you can contact South Africa’s Information Regulator.
